Mo Scarpelli is a director and cinematographer of mostly-nonfiction cinema. Her films linger on the rupture of identity by human error and circumstance, and the myriad ways human beings create to survive the world, and themselves. Mo’s films have screened at the Berlinale, Visions du Réel, IDFA, SXSW, Hot Docs, BFI London Film Festival, Thessaloniki, and others. Mo’s films include her solo-directed debut film ANBESSA (Crystal Bear & Glashütte Prize nominee, Berlinale 2019); EL FATHER PLAYS HIMSELF (Special Mention for Best Intl Film, Visions du Réel) and FRAME BY FRAME (SXSW 2015). Mo is twice a selection of Berlinale Talents, and has received fellowships from the New America Foundation, CEC Artslink, and the International Women in Media Foundation. She is based in Rome.
